Yolyn am, also know as Vulture Valley, is one of the beautiful gorges of Gurvan Saikhan mountain. Gurvan Saikhan mountain has rich fauna and flora and this particular valley was named after Lammergeier as this giant raptor domain the area. Big mammals such as ibex and big horned sheep, or argali sheep, are occasionally encountered in Gurvan Saikhan mountain. But diurnal birds of prey and other small creatures including Mongolian pika are more likely to be spotted in the Vulture Valley.
Yolyn am gradually narrows into a remarkable gorge where ice formations persist as late as July. Hiking through the Vulture valley is a great way to escape from the midday heat and it’s often refreshing to feel the cooling wind and enjoy the lush green valley at sight in the middle of the Gobi Desert. Also, optional horseback riding is available at the gate.
Yolyn Am lies 50 km west of Dalanzadgad town and most parts of the road were paved in recent years. Tourist Ger camps are available at the gate of the valley.
