A truly amazing epic landscape is begging for your exploration. You will have opportunities to trek in the majestic Kharkhiraa Turgen mountains while meeting nomadic people and experiencing their lifestyle. In addition, some part of this trip is challenging that demands good physical strength.

Day 1: Ulaanbaatar
Upon arrival at the airport, you will be welcomed by your Zendmen Travel guide. And you will be transferred to a comfortable, centrally located hotel within walking distance of various museums and shops. You will do a short city tour and enjoy the Mongolian folk concert followed by a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2: Local flight to Ulaangom and drive to a Nomadic family
A local flight from UB to Ulaangom, the capital city of Uvs province. The Kharkhiraa-Turgen Mountain, a magnificent backdrop for Ulaangom, greets you as you disembark from the propeller plane. After filling your vehicles with food and other supplies, so you will head to the Turgen Mountain summer place which takes 4 hours in a Russian van on a rugged dirt road.
Day 3: Trekking Starts around Khoid Turgen Ekh
Your porters, local camel herders, will join in the morning with their camels which carry the camping and cooking equipment. After breakfast you will pack your belongings and start trekking alongside the Kharkhiraa river. Kharkhiraa river is named after its source which it takes from the Kharkhiraa mountains’ glacier, and means “roaring river”.
Day 4: Trekking to Ekhen Khoroo
Today you will follow the Kharkhiraa river upward and southwest until the camping site Ekhen Khoroo, 2300m above sea level. The daily itinerary will be the same as the previous day with breakfast, camel packing, trekking, lunch break, trekking and unpacking at the camping site followed by dinner. Total ascent will be 790 meters.
Day 5: Trekking from Ekhen khoroo to Kharkhiraan ekh (14km)
14 kilometers of hiking up to the headspring of Kharkhiraa River. Camping by the foothill of the Turgen Mountains with the view of Turgen and Kharkhiraa mountain snow peaks. Overnight tent at 2880m above sea level. Noticeable temperature drop will be here tonight. There will be several small streams to cross on foot. Scenery here will be lush valley with snow-peak mountains along with sporadic nomadic families.
Day 6: Lakes and wildflowers
Today you will have a rather short hike to explore the three glacier lakes (out of five) and search for snow lotus flowers. These beautiful colorful lakes source the Kharkhiraa river and are all connected to each other via small streams. The terrain is very rocky, and you will need to cross the streams.
Day 7: Trekking from Kharkhiraan ekh to the foothill of Kharkhiraan khirts mountain (10km)
Eventually, you would have reached your furthest destination and today you will start heading back to the foothill of Kharkhiraan Khirts mountain walking downstream the river. It will be rather easy day to accomplish.
Day 8: Return to Ulaangom
After having a leisurely breakfast, you will all pack and hike up to the Kharkhiraan Khirts mountain. The ascent will be rather short in distance but quite a steep walk (2km) on rough terrain. Once we meet the van drivers on top of the Kharkhiraan Khirts mountain the trekking will be complete. It will also be the time to say goodbye to the wranglers and porters. The drive to Ulaangom will be about 3 hours on dirt road. You will stay in a local hotel where you can enjoy the amenities.
Day 9: Flight to Ulaanbaatar, Drive to Terelj National Park (70km, ~2hours)
Firstly, we will have our morning flight from Ulaangom to Ulaanbaatar. Once arrived in Ulaanbaatar, then you will be transferred to the Terelj National park, located 70 km from Ulaanbaatar where you will stay in traditional Mongolian gers. Still, there are stunning rocky mountain formations in the National Park covered by larch forest which is a continuous part of Siberian Taiga. In fact, the area is famous for the Turtle Rock, a gigantic turtle shaped rock formation that witnesses the power of natural erosion of wind and sun. Visit Aryabal Meditation temple and enjoy the tranquil setting of the surrounding landscape and Alpine meadow with abundant wildflowers.
Day 10: Chinggis khaan’s statue & Ulaanbaatar
After breakfast, you will drive to the largest monument of Chinggis Khaan mounted on a horse. In addition, You will get a chance to climb up to the horse head and fantastic view of surroundings and then return to Ulaanbaatar. En route, you will pass through the mining town of Nalaikh where many Kazakh people settled. Kazakhs account for five percent of Mongolia’s population and the only Muslim ethnic group in the country. Lastly, Upon arrival in the Ulaanbaatar, you will enjoy shopping for souvenir and Mongolia’s famous cashmere.
Day 11: Departure
After breakfast transfer to the airport for the flight home.
